Mathildenhöhe’s western slope is graced by the three golden onion domes of a mosaic-adorned Russian Orthodox chapel. It was built from 1897 to 1899 for the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, who married a local gal, Princess Alix von Hessen (Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig’s younger sister), in 1894.
