Art Library (Kunstbibliothek)
The Art Library, or Kunstbibliothek, contains over 400,000 books specific to the study of art. The library has both drawings and printed works from the applied arts as well as an extensive photographic collection. The Art Library also has an ornamental prints collection, the Lipperheide costume library, a collection of posters and advertisements, a collection of graphic design, architectural models and drawings, and a book design collection.
The Art Library is also a research institute aiming to offer new perspectives on important themes in art, such as the rise and evolution of international art styles and movements, the history of the art trade, and the shared origins of Occidental and non-European art. The library acquires and researches scientific literature on the history of European art from late antiquity to the present. Collection articles can be viewed in the reading hall, and special exhibitions are on display on a regular basis.
