Saxon Switzerland National Park
With its dramatic topography of tumbling canyons, table mountains and untamed forests, and spliced down the middle by the mighty Elbe River, the Saxon Switzerland National Park is a wild playground for adventurers. Sprawling across the Germany-Czech Republic border, where it merges with the Bohemian Switzerland National Park, the vast park offers around 400km of hiking paths, 50km of cycling trails and hundreds of climbing locations, with ample opportunities to venture off-the-beaten-track.
Notable highlights of the Saxon Switzerland National Park include the landmark Bastei Bridge, which offers stunning views along the Elbe; the Königstein Fortress; the villages of Bad Schandau and Pirna; and the Lichtenhain waterfall, while other popular pastimes include cruising the Elbe and riding the Kirnitzsch valley tram.
