Warnemuende (Warnemünde)
Perched on Germany’s northeast coast, looking out towards Danish shores, the medieval port town of Warnemuende is now a lively seaside resort, flanked by some of the country’s most idyllic beaches. As one of the closest coastal towns to Berlin, Warnemuende Port makes a prime stop for cruise ships, with many cruise visitors opting for shore excursions to the capital (less than 2.5 hours away).
Be sure to leave time to explore the town itself too. Warnemuende’s principal attractions include the 19th century lighthouse, which offers spectacular views from its 37-meter-tall tower, and the landmark Teepott building, with its unusual curved roof. Strolling through the town center with its half-timbered houses and colorful fishing boats clustered around the harbor, is an equally charming proposition, and many visitors opt to relax at one of the atmospheric waterfront cafes or wander along the pretty promenade to the nearby beaches.
