A 20-minute drive northeast of modern Abdera lie the ruins of the ancient town. Outdoor exhibitions display stone sarcophagi, huge urns and other imagination-spurring remnants of the town, while the foundations of temples and houses can be explored around the site. The site was accessible during our visit, though undergoing flood damage repairs; it's wise to check ahead with the Archaeological Museum in town.
