Fabricius House

TIME : 2016/2/18 20:13:06

The baroque Fabricius House was built on Roman foundations and is divided into three distinct sections. The main archaeological exhibition covers Celtic, Roman and Hungarian periods of history on its lower floors, the standout artefact being the 1200-year-old Cunpald Goblet – don’t miss the ‘whispering gallery’ either. The basement, which used to be a Roman bathhouse, now fittingly features some of the most impressive Roman remains in Sopron: sarcophagi and Scarbantia-era statues reconstructed from fragments (including enormous statues of Juno, Jupiter and Minerva). Finally, upstairs are the urban flats , with rooms tracing the changes in interior furnishings between the 17th and 18th centuries – of interest to those with a passion for antique furniture.
