There are two open-air zoos in the national park south of Hortobágy village. The Puszta Animal Park , 2km south of the Nine-Hole Bridge, with its weird and wonderful animals, is a fun place for kids of all ages. Here's you'll see the rare breeds of the puszta up close: the heavy-set long-horned grey cattle, the curly-haired mangalica pig and the racka sheep, whose corkscrew-like horns are particularly devilish. About 5km further south at Malomháza is the Hortobágy Wild Animal Park , which hosts animals that lived on the puszta before it was farmed: wolves, jackals, wild horses, vultures, pelicans etc. Visitors are transported by 'safari bus', which departs hourly from the Herder Museum.
