The history of the celebrated Calvinist College is told in words and displays at the School History Exhibition (Iskolatörténeti Kiállítás) in an 18th-century physics classroom. The list of the school alumni reads like a who’s who of Hungarian literary and political history, and includes the patriot Lajos Kossuth, the poet Mihály Csokonai Vitéz and the novelist Géza Gárdonyi. The main reason for visiting the college, though, is to see its 25,000-volume Great Library (Nagy Könyvtár) in the main building, a long oval-shaped room with a gallery and a trompe l’oeil ceiling simulating the inside of a cupola. Guided tours leave on the hour.
