Totalling 76,000 hectares, Kiskunság National Park consists of nine 'islands' of protected land, though much of it is off-limits. Bugac (population 2715), a village 30km southwest of Kecskemét, is the most accessible part of the park. The highlight of a trip here is the the popular cowboy show , where the boys race one another bareback and ride ‘five-in-hand’, a breathtaking performance in which one csikós (cowboy) gallops five horses at full speed while standing on the backs of the back two.
