Győr’s main museum is named after a local 19th-century traveller and naturalist. The exterior of this peach-coloured museum building with its all-seeing eye is as interesting as the collection, parts of which are a philatelist’s wet dream. You have to trawl through the fairly ho-hum archaeological remains and the like to spot the gems, such as the miniscule boots created by a shoemaker in a bid to show off his skills and be accepted by the appropriate guild.
