There are many houses of worship in the inner city. Dominating Kossuth tér, the red-brick neo-Romanesque Roman Catholic cathedral dating from 1904 has arabesque painted pastel-coloured tiles inside. Near Kálvin tér the Greek Catholic church , built in 1895, contains a rich liturgical collection of vestments and church plate. The synagogue still functions as a house of worship and has a small collection of Jewish artefacts.
