Gyöngyös was home to a relatively large Jewish community from the 15th century to WWII, and two splendid synagogues bear witness to this. The older of the two, the neoclassical Memorial Synagogue, built in 1820, faces Gyöngyös Stream and now houses the city's TV studios.
