A celebration of the pluck of the Irish, this extensive and engrossing museum looks at rural traditions and skills. Overlooking a lake in the lush grounds of 19th-century Turlough Manor, this purpose-built facility is a branch of the National Museum of Ireland and explores everything from the role of the potato to boat building, herbal cures and traditional clothing. Exhibits concentrate on the period from 1850 to 1950. There's a good cafe and shop; it's 8km northeast of Castlebar.
