Contemporary Irish crafts are showcased at these imaginative galleries, set in former stables across the road from Kilkenny Castle, next to the shops of the Kilkenny Design Centre . Ceramics dominate, but exhibits often feature furniture, jewellery and weaving from the members of the Crafts Council of Ireland. Family days are held the second Saturday of every month, with free hands-on workshops for children at 10am and 12.30pm. For additional workshops and events, check the website.
Behind the complex, look for the gate that leads into the beautiful Butler House Gardens with an unusual water feature constructed from remnants of the British-built Nelson Pillar, which once stood in Dublin's O'Connell St but was blown up by the IRA in 1966.
