The present church dates from the early 13th century and was built by the O'Brien family on top of a 6th-century church. Inside, astonishing 12th-century carvings decorate the Romanesque southern doorway (on your right as you enter), near the shaft of a stone cross known as Thorgrim's Stone, which dates from the early Christian period, unusual for being inscribed with both the old Scandinavian runic and Irish Ogham scripts. Also within the church is a 13th-century font.
