Ugly work, but these 19th-century mines yielded all manner of silver, glistening quartz and much more. Visitors learn about the tough existence of workers here and can marvel at some of the treasures unearthed. You can also join in some gold-panning and enjoy exploring the working farm. It is 3km west of Oughterard.
