Set in lovely wooded grounds in the shadow of Cuilcagh Mountain, Florence Court is famous for its rococo plasterwork and antique Irish furniture, which you can see on a one-hour tour . In the grounds you can explore the walled garden and, on the edge of Cottage Wood, southeast of the house, admire an ancient Irish yew tree. It's said that every Irish yew around the world is descended from this one.
Florence Court is 12km southwest of Enniskillen, off the A32.
Part of the first Earl of Belmore's motivation for building Castle Coole (near Enniskillen) was keeping up with the Joneses – in the 1770s his aristocratic neighbour William Willoughby Cole, the first Earl of Enniskillen, had overseen the addition of grand Palladian wings to this beautiful, baroque country house.
It was badly damaged by fire in 1955 and much of what you see on the tour is the result of meticulous restoration, but the magnificent plaster work on the ceiling of the dining room is original.
Note: don't confuse Florence Court with the nearby, single-worded village of Florencecourt.
