One of the peninsula's most famous beaches, Is Aruttas is a pristine arc of white sand fronted by translucent aquamarine waters. For years its quartz sand was carted off to be used in aquariums and on beaches on the Costa Smeralda but it's now illegal to take any. The beach is signposted and 5km west of the road north from San Salvatore.
