Located inside the Palazzo Reale (purchase tickets at the palace ticket booth), modern museum MeMus documents the history of Europe's oldest working opera house, the Teatro San Carlo . The collection includes costumes, sketches, instruments and memorabilia, displayed in annually changing themed exhibitions. One interactive, immersive exhibit allows visitors to enjoy the music of numerous celebrated composers with accompanying visuals by artists who have collaborated with the opera house, among them William Kentridge.
Upstairs, computers offer access to Teatro San Carlo's rich archives, although all were out of order on our last visit.
