Stepping through Guido Canali’s glowing spaces in the Duomo’s new museum is like coming upon the sets for an episode of Game of Thrones . Tortured gargoyles leer down through the shadows; shafts of light strike the wings of heraldic angels; and a monstrous godhead glitters awesomely in copper once intended for the high altar. It’s an exciting display, masterfully choreographed through 26 rooms, which tell the 600-year story of the cathedral’s construction through priceless sculptures, paintings, stained glass, tapestries and bejewelled treasures.
