Roscigno Vecchia is located in the heart of the national park 28km west of Teggiano. Sudden landslides in the early 20th century caused the population to flee, although most of the original stone houses are still standing, demonstrating the sturdiness of the historic vernacular architecture. These, as well as the church and the central piazza, are all ghostly reminders of a formerly thriving community. The residents were eventually permanently moved to Roscigno Nuovo (now simply known as Roscigno).
