For Liepāja, the wide stretch of dazzlingly white sand south of the Venta River is what the Louvre is for Paris – its main treasure. During the warmer months, beach bums of every ilk – from nudist to kiteboarder – line the sands to absorb the sun’s rays. Backed by a belt of dunes and a lush manicured park, the Blue Flag beach feels as pristine and well cared for as an urban beach can get.
At its northern end, the beach abuts in the area of warehouse that further on becomes the Southern Pier , the city's newest promenade with a watch tower, from which you can observe the harbour and photograph cruise liners on their way in and out.
