This Lutheran church isn’t particularly beautiful, but it’s the most important house of worship in town, since Katrina (St Catherine) is Kuldīga’s patron saint and protector (she’s even featured on the town’s coat of arms). The first church on the site was built in the 1200s, and the current incarnation dates back to Duke Jakob’s rule in the mid-1600s. During the Soviet era, the church was used as a barn for horses and cows, but today it is once again a place for prayer, with a large organ and fresh flowers adorning the pews.
