The 'Republic' of Užupis's 41-point Constitution is engraved in English, French, Lithuanian and several other languages on plaques running along Paupio gatvė. It guarantees its citizens, among other things, the right to hot water, to be unique, to love, to be free, to be happy (or unhappy) and to be a dog. It ends ‘Do not defeat. Do not fight back. Do not surrender.’
