Bourglinster’s 18th-century castle sits within the shattered ruins of a bigger 12th-century fortress destroyed by a 1684 French attack. The whitewashed gatehouse towers look like cartoon mushroom houses, the main building hosts exhibitions and the courtyard is used for occasional performances. Side wings contain two classy restaurants.
