The T-shaped museum has works by some of the greatest painters of several centuries, from Bruyn the Elder to Picasso. The Van Gogh collection rivals that of the artist's namesake museum in Amsterdam – Helene was a fan – including The Potato Eaters and Weavers among many more, all arranged chronologically so you can trace his development as a painter.
Impressionists include Renoir, Sisley, Monet and Manet. A sprawling sculpture garden features works by Rodin, Moore and others.
Art lovers can recharge at a pair of excellent cafes, indoor and out. If you are cycling to the museum from one of the three park entrances, it's 2.5km from Otterlo, 4km from Hoenderloo and 10km from Schaarsbergen.
