Perched atop the entrance to the IJ Tunnel is the science and technology museum, NEMO. The dramatic, green-copper building rises from the waterfront like a ship setting sail. Its hands-on exhibits (with English explanations) are winners with kids and adults: drawing with a laser, 'antigravity' trick mirrors and a 'lab' for answering such questions as 'How black is black?' and 'How do you make cheese?'.
NEMO's stepped, decklike roof is the city's largest summer terrace with panoramic views.
Italian architect Renzo Piano conceived the design as the inverse of the IJ tunnel below. Inside, Piano's design reflects a 'noble factory', with exposed wiring and pipes.
