Commanderie van St Jan
North of the Grote Markt on Franseplaats, this was a 15th-century hospital for the knights of St John. Today it still gives life: it houses a brewery.

Just east of Grote Markt, the Stadhuis is a much-restored fairy tale in stone that dates to the 16th century.

Willemswerf
Alongside the water is the striking 1988 Willemswerf office building, with a sloping glass trapezium making a diagonal cut-away across the facade.

Located in the Begijnhof, the Houten Huis sits at no 34. It dates from around 1465, making it the oldest preserved wooden house in the Netherlands.

Kreward
Surrounded by a tiny moat with ducks, this picture-perfect 16th-century church sits primly on a terp (mud mound). Its near the coast and the N33.

Paleis Noordeinde
The kings and queens official quarters at Paleis Noordeinde is not open to the public. The Renaissance formality of the structure is fittingly regal.

De Delftse Pauw
De Delftse Pauw employs 35 painters who work mainly from home. It has daily tours, but you wont see the painters on weekends. Take tram 1 to Vrijenbanselaan.

The Marekerk dates to 1639 and has a beautiful eight-sided wooden interior. Regular concerts and theatre performances take place here; check the agenda online.

KPN Telecom Headquarters
Designed by celebrated architect Renzo Piano and opened in 2000, the KPN Telecom headquarters building leans at a sharp angle, seemingly resting on a long pole.
