The Olavsgruva mine is 13km north of Røros. The moderately interesting museum exhibition is far surpassed by mine tours passing through the historic Nyberget mine, which dates from the 1650s. The modern Olavsgruva mine beyond it was begun in 1936. The ground can get muddy and the temperature in the mine is 5°C year round; bring a jacket (unless its mid-winter outside in which case you may be tempted to don a T-shirt!) and good footwear.
There's no public transport to the mine. Cheaper combined tickets with Smelthytta are also available.
