Breidablikk
This opulent manor was constructed for the merchant shipowner Lars Berentsen. Its authentic late-19th-century interiors include old farming implements, books and decorative objects.

Bergen Cathedral (Domkirken)
Dedicated to St Olaf, a church was first built here in 1181. Todays city cathedral dates to the 17th-century, although its interior was retro-medievalised in the late 1800s.

The Altaelva hydroelectric project has had very little effect on the most scenic stretch of river, which slides through 400m-deep Sautso, northern Europes grandest canyon.

Supphellebreen
You can drive to within 300m of the Supphellebreen glacier, then walk right up and touch the ice. Ice blocks from here were used as podiums at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.

Miners Cottages (Flanderborg Gate)
Off the southwestern corner of the slag heaps, the historic smelting district with its tiny turf-roofed miners cottages, particularly along Sleggveien, is one of Røros prettiest corners.

Stunning photos of the Lofoten Islands in all their brooding glory, most of them for sale, are the work of photographer Anders Finsland. Its worth stopping by even if you dont plan to buy.

Haraldshaugen
The burial site of Viking King Harald Hårfagre, who died of plague at Avaldsnes on nearby Karmøy, is 1.5km north of Haugesund. The obelisk, erected in 1872, commemorates the decisive 872 battle.

Trondenes Historiske Senter
Trondenes Historical Centre, just south of the church, has well-mounted and equally well-documented displays and artefacts illustrating the social history of the area from Viking days to the present.

Gamle Aker Kirke
This medieval stone church, located north of the centre on Akersbakken, dates from 1080 and is Oslos oldest building. Take bus 37 from Jernbanetorget to Akersbakken, then walk up past the churchyard.

Museum of Dolls & Toys
In Sakrisøy, Dagmar Gylseth has collected more than 2500 dolls, antique teddy bears and historic toys over 20 years for her Museum of Dolls and Toys. There’s also an affiliated antiques shop upstairs.
