Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, The Lady with an Ermine , is on display here at Wawel Castle for the foreseeable future as the painting's permanent home, the Czartoryski Museum, is undergoing a multiyear renovation. Along with the Mona Lisa , the 'Lady' is one of a handful of da Vinci portraits of women. The painting has had a remarkable history. It was stolen from Kraków by the Nazis in WWII and was returned by the American after the war in 1946.
