New Zoo
This sprawling institution covers 116 hectares at the eastern end of Lake Malta. It houses diverse species, including Baltic grey seals, in a leafy pine forest environment.

Naval Museum
South of the pier, on Bulwar Nadmorski, is the Naval Museum . It has a display of guns, fighter planes, helicopters and rockets, mostly of interest to militaria aficionados.

Hospital of the Holy Ghost
The 15th-century Hospital of the Holy Ghost, formerly St Anne’s Chapel, contains exhibitions of religious art and medical history. It’s a short and well-signposted walk east of the cathedral.

Centre of Drawing & Graphic Arts
Displays temporary exhibits of drawings and graphic arts, including works by Tadeusz Kulisiewicz (1899–1988), a Kalisz-born artist known mainly for his drawings. Enter from ul Łazienna.

Lighthouse
The first Polish bullets of WWII were fired from the windows of the Nowy Port Lighthouse. Today there are incredible views across the Bay of Gdańsk, including the Hel Peninsula, from the top.

Old Trades Museum
This institution contains reconstructions of an old tavern – Świdnica was always famous for its beer – along with a pharmacy and shop, and a collection of historic scales and balances.

Uphagens House
This historic 18th-century residence features ornate furniture. As you pass beyond the kitchen, take a minute to browse the family tree and history of the Uphagen family, outlined in English.

Monument to Mordechaj Anielewicz
This mound topped by a simple limestone block forms a memorial paying tribute to Mordechaj Anielewicz, the leader of the Ghetto Uprising, who perished in a bunker on this site in 1943.

Museum of Zakopane Style – Inspirations
This companion museum to the main Zakopane Style museum is more of an ethnographic exhibition, highlighting the highlander folk roots and styles that inspired Witkiewicz in the first place.

Polish Aviation Museum
Old aircraft, engines and other aviation equipment exhibited on the grounds of one Europes oldest military airports, that traces its roots to the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Grodzka Gate
This gate leads from the castle area into the Old Town and was traditionally referred to as the Jewish gate, since until WWII it also connected the main Jewish quarter to the Old Town.

Skansen
The skansen in Ochla, 7km south of the city, is served by bus 27. About three dozen traditional buildings – half of them residential – have been reassembled over 13 hectares of land.

Fish Sellers’ Houses
South of the town hall is this endearing row of small arcaded buildings. They were built in the 16th century on the site of fish stalls and later reconstructed after major WWII damage.

Berlin Wall
At the entrance to the now defunct Roads to Freedom exhibition (Wały Piastowskie) stands a lonely piece of the Berlin Wall. The mammoth building next to it is Solidaritys headquarters.

Pszczyna Farm Village
A five-minute walk east of Pszczynas Rynek is this small but interesting open-air museum, with half a dozen 200-year-old timber houses – including a mill, smithy and barn – collected from the region.

House Under the Angels
This palatial edifice is also known as the English House (Dom Angielski), after the nationality of the merchants who owned it in the 17th century when it was the largest burgher’s house in Gdańsk.

Lontowa Tower
Sometimes erroneously known as the powder tower, this tower is a 15th-century survivor from the original city walls. Its currently closed while the city authorities decide what to do with it.

Wine Park
Located on the site of a historical vineyard, this pleasant park contains a restaurant and cafe, as well as a palm house exhibiting exotic plants. It’s a great place to have a meal and unwind.

Dar Pomorza
The beautiful three-masted frigate Dar Pomorza was built in Hamburg in 1909 and used as a training ship for German sailors. Check out the information in English on the dockside before you step aboard.

Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity
The neoclassical Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1784 and initially served the Uniat congregation. The main door behind the grill is left open for you to admire the modern iconostasis.
