Medeiros e Almeida Museum

This historic home is a 25-room private collection of art ranging from the 17th to 20th centuries. With Chinese porcelain, European painting and sculpture, tapestries, and a dining set that once belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte, there is an abundance of fine and decorative arts to take in.  
There are three main collections, each of which is housed in its own room: watches, porcelain, and silverware. The Chinese collection dates back to the Han and Qing dynasties. The 18th century “Lake Room” is tiled with panels representing each continent, and tiles of the four seasons surrounding a bronze and marble fountain from the gardens of Versailles. Many of the items hold historical, even royal, significance from all over Europe. Sections of the house where owner António de Medeiros e Almeida once lived contain elegant furniture, glassware, and jewelry as well.  

Practical Info

The museum is located at 41 Rua Rosa Araújo. The nearest Metro stop is Marquês De Pombal. Tickets are €5 for general admission, €3 for students and seniors, and free for those under 18. It is open from 1 to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday, and from 10 am to 5:30 pm on Saturdays. From 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays there is no admission charge. Guided tours take place Monday through Friday for €6.
