Palacio Foz

The Palacio Foz is an ornate palace built in the 18th century that today houses the Lisbon tourism office and frequently holds local events.  Built in the Baroque style, it has since been restored by Italian architect Francesco Saverio Fabri — giving it a more Italian feel.  
Originally named Palácio Castelo Melhor, it was renamed in the 19th century for the marquis of Foz, resident of the palace at that time. Its multi-storied, rose colored exterior takes up the greater part of a block. The interior is lushly adorned with decorative arts, elegant marble, detailed painted ceilings and walls, intricate iron balconies, and perhaps most significantly, with mirrors.  Its Sala dos Espelhos is a mirrored hall in the style of Louis XIV at Versailles.  Visitors can explore the many rooms, from a dining space and library to a grand atrium, foyer, and staircase.

Practical Info

The Palacio is located on the edge of Praça dos Restauradores (Restoration Square) in central Lisbon. It is open from 9 am to 10 pm. Free guided tours take place twice weekly, once during the week and once on Saturdays.
