Praia de Faro
Endless beaches seem to become reality at Praia de Faro, a near circular strip of sand that surrounds the island-like Faro peninsula, also called Ilha de Faro. One side faces a shallow inland lagoon, where moored fishing boats bob in the water; meanwhile, the other side looks upon the sea and is where you’ll find long, expansive stretches of tempting golden sand.
You’ll find more than just beaches here, too, but also loads of outdoor-activity opportunities, including windsurfing and jet skiing. And sandwiched between the two shorelines is a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants, should you wish to take a break from sand and sports while switching between shores.
Perhaps best of all, this island-like paradise is just an easy bus ride away from the town of Faro, noted for its attractive old quarter. While in the region, be sure to also visit the eastern side of Faro’s marshland, where you can explore the bike-able Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Practical Info
Praia de Faro is located on the Ilha de Faro, just past the Faro airport. Ilha de Faro can be reached via the same bus lines that travel to the airport, which include buses 14 and 16. While there is parking available, note that it can get quite full during summertime.
