Just 18km south of Braşov, the hilltop ruins of 13th-century Râşnov fortress, built by Teutonic Knights as protection against Tatar and Turkish invasions, feel considerably less touristy than nearby Bran Castle . Visitors can wander the grounds to see a church, jail and nice views of the mountains. From the central square, there were plans to build an elevator up to the fortress by 2015; otherwise you'll have to hike it.
