The Koksa and Uymon Valleys were once a hotbed for Orthodox Old Believers, many of whom fled here in the 1700s to avoid persecution by the official Russian Orthodox Church. In the 1930s the Old Believers offered fierce armed resistance to collectivisation, leading to the almost total destruction of their villages by the Soviet state. This modest museum contains artefacts from their everyday lives.
