The classic 1922 vampire film Nosferatu featured the pointed towers of Orava Castle, which rise from an impossibly narrow blade of rock above the village. This, one of Slovakia's most complete castles, dates from 1267. Later additions and reconstructions were made, most notably after a fire in 1800. The museum is chock full of weapons, folk art and period furniture.
Legend has it the castle contains one mirror where the reflection will make you beautiful, and another that will make you ugly – make sure to ask the difference. Below the castle in the tiny village of Oravský Podzámok there's a pizza pub and a pension.
