Hrad Červený Kameň, aka the Red Stone Castle, is a key member of Slovakia's fortified elite, exemplifying external Gothic resplendence along with interior Baroque charm. The period-furnished rooms are interesting, but the vast cellar/dungeon complex is the highlight. The castle is not red at all, but white: the red refers to the stone it was built on. The interior courtyard has a small restaurant. Two buses each hour connect Častá, the village below the castle, with Bratislava (€2, 1¼ hours).
