Považké Museum
Check out the exhibits (Slovak only) depicting the notorious highwayman Juraj Jánošíks exploits (and gruesome death) at this small museum in Terchová above the tourist information centre.

Statue of Juraj Jánošík
Above Terchová sits an immense aluminium statue of Juraj Jánošík, Slovakias Robin Hood. In early August, much festivity goes on beneath his likeness during the Jánošík Days folk festival.

New Castle
A former lookout tower during the Hungarian-Turkish wars, the towns new castle was constructed only five years after the old one; inside are exhibits on the historical struggle against Turkish invasion.

Apponyi Palace
Explore the areas winemaking heritage in the cellar exhibits of this restored 1761 palace. Theres an excellent, interactive English-language audio. Fork out another two euros and you can check out some period-furnished rooms too.

Museum of Folk Architecture
Here you can see painted interiors and iconostases of the areas nailless wooden churches, including an ancient (Unesco-listed) example from Zboj. Still, hunting out the churches themselves in the surrounding countryside is more fun.

Andy Warhol Museum
Medzilaborce in far-eastern Slovakia is where Andy Warhols parents grew up, and in 1991 the Andy Warhol Museum opened in this unlikely location as a shrine to pop art, with original works by Warhol, Basquiat, Lichtenstein and the like.

Church of Mariánska Hora
From town you can see the Church of Mariánska Hora, 2km north, where the largest annual Catholic pilgrimage in Slovakia takes place in early July. You can walk or drive up for great views over Levoča: get directions in the tourist office.

Domica Cave
Near Dlhá Ves in Slovak Karst National Park , Domica Cave boasts subterranean systems over 1000m long, as well as boat trips and 16 bat species. The tourist office on the main square in Rožňava, 65km west of Košice, has information on how to visit the park.

Icon Exposition
At the Icon Exposition you can see more than 160 dazzling icons from the 16th to 19th centuries. Originally, the stylised portraits of Christ Pantocrator, the Mother of God and a whole flock of saints decorated Greek Catholic and Orthodox churches east of here.
