The most popular tourist destination in Slovenia, Bled is a place for those who enjoy peace and quiet and stunning views of nature. Known primarily for its beautiful lake, incredible castle, and position in the Julian Alps, the town of Bled itself is slightly underwhelming. Visitors come from all over the world to experience the fairytale-esque environs.
The glacial Lake Bled is surrounded by forest and mountains, and is the main attraction of the city. Sitting atop a cliff 100 m (30 ft) above the lake, the iconic Bled Castle presents the best possible view of the city and the surrounding countryside. While visiting the castle, take the time to step inside and see the museum and visit the chapel. Be sure to check out the collection of arms and armor from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
Further attractions include the Bled health spa, the Vintgar Gorge, the Church of the Assumption, Bled Island, and the Transalpine Train.
Being a popular tourist destination, Bled is easily accessible in all seasons. The closest international airport is Brnik, about 35 km (mi) away. For ground travel, regular buses connect all of the major cities of Slovenia. The city is also accessible by train from the Lesce-Bled station.
There is also a tourist train that runs daily every 45 minutes and goes around the lake.
