Triglav National Park
Triglav National Park in Slovenia is one of the largest nature reserves in Europe. It covers an area of about 340 square miles and is the only national park in Slovenia. The highest mountain in the park is Mount Triglav, standing at 9,396 feet tall. This mountain is where the park gets its name. The park is in the northwest corner of the country near the Italian border, close to Austria, and extends into the southeastern section of the Alps. The park's main goal is nature protection and conservation of the cultural landscape.
Visitors can admire gorges, trees and other plants, mountains, lakes, glacial valleys, and native wildlife while exploring the park. The rich biodiversity means you could see deer, ibex, brown bears, lynx, and a wide variety of birds, reptiles, and fish. There are several hiking trails throughout the park as well as a cycling route. The park also contains several settlements where people live throughout the year. The local inhabitants work in tourism, agriculture, wood processing, and in the iron industry.
