Murska Sobota Gallery
The best gallery in Prekmurje, MSG has a permanent collection of more than 500 works – much of it sculpture – as well as some excellent special exhibitions (admission varies).

National Hall
To the north of the Gallery of Contemporary Art is the National Hall, the cultural and social centre for Celjes Slovenes at the end of the 19th century and now the city hall.

Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences
At Novi trg’s western end is the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences housed in a 16th-century building that was the seat of the provincial diet parliament under the Habsburgs.

Municipal Palace
On Veliki trg is the Municipal Palace, which now houses offices of the local council. It was built in Gothic style in 1325; but the present baroque facade is from the 17th century.

Island of Love Mill
One of two working floating mills on the Mura River, the Island of Love Mill at Ižakovci, southwest of Beltinci, includes a small museum, shop and a raft ride across the Mura.

Miha Maleš Gallery
The Miha Maleš Gallery contains some 2600 works by the eponymous painter and graphic artist, who was born in Kamnik in 1903. Enter from the north side of the tourist office on Glavni trg.

Church of St Nicholas
On the north side of Kidričeva ulica there are several disused churches from the 16th century, including the Church of St Nicholas.

Brutti Palace
Linked to Titov trg to the east, Trg Brolo is a wide and leafy square of fine old buildings, including the late-18th-century baroque Brutti Palace, now the central library, to the north.

Urbanc Palace
To the north of Prešernov Trg, on the corner of Trubarjeva cesta and Miklošičeva cesta, is this delightful Secessionist palace building from 1903, which now houses a fancy department store.

Maribor Aquarium
Small but diverting combination aquarium-terrarium in City Park (Mestni Park), with its diverse collection of fresh- and salt-water critters, reptiles and other exotic creepy crawlies.

Judgement Tower
To the south of the former Minorite monastery along the riverfront, the round Judgement Tower is the first of four defence towers still standing, with curious friezes on the south side.

Rotunda of John the Baptist
Behind the Cathedral of the Assumption to the north is a circular Romanesque Rotunda of John the Baptist, a baptistery dating from the second half of the 12th century with a ceiling fresco.

Mali House
Radovljicas colourful main square is the town’s leading attraction, lined with houses from the 16th century. Mali House has a barely visible picture of St George slaying the dragon.

Viewpoint
At the southern end of Linhartov trg, take the small street beside house number 28 to find a lovely viewpoint over the Lipnica valley, with information boards detailing walking tracks in the area.

Slovenian School Museum
This rather esoteric museum explores how Slovenian kids learned the three Rs in past centuries. The mock-ups of the old classrooms are excellent and there is some explanatory material in English.

Union Experience
This museum at the Union brewery offers various displays of brewing, a film and a tasting. The more expensive tour at noon only includes a visit to the production facilities. Walk here from Center.

Primožič House
This cute green house is home to displays of local arts and crafts, including embroidery, woodwork and Bela Krajinas renowned pisanice, intricately painted Easter eggs. TIC staff will open it for you.

Celje Hall
Opposite the train station is where youll find mammoth neo-Gothic Celje Hall, built in 1907 and erstwhile social centre for German-speaking Celjani, which now contains the year-round tourist office.

Vilenica Cave
Vilenica Cave is 2km northwest of Lokev, halfway between Divača and Lipica. It was the first karst cave to open to the public in the early 19th century and still welcomes guests every Sunday year-round.

Piramida
To the northeast of City Park is Piramida (386m), where the titans of Marchburg once held sway and a chapel now takes pride of place. Theres some lovely residential architecture in the streets around the park.
