Column of St Florian
The centre of the Old Town, this square is graced with the 17th-century Column of St Florian, dedicated to the patron saint of fire-fighters.

Špital Church
The Špital Church on Spodnji trg was built in 1720 around the towns almshouse, and the poor lived in the cells of the courtyard building behind.

Provost’s House
On Bled Island, this building is home to a gallery and excellent souvenir shop; on the 1st floor is an exhibition space (with changing exhibitions).

Aquarium
About 100m south of the square along the harbour, might be small, but theres a tremendous variety of sea life packed into its two-dozen tanks

Cooperative Bank
The one-time Cooperative Bank was designed by Ivan Vurnik, and the red, yellow and blue geometric patterns were painted by his wife Helena in 1922.

Gewerkenegg Castle
The castle was built in the 1520s to serve as the administrative headquarters of the Idrija mine. This award-winning Municipal Museum is housed inside.

Little Castle
The renovated yellow pile called the Little Castle was the erstwhile home of the Salzburg bishops and a number of aristocratic families over the centuries.

Maribor Art Gallery
The Maribor Art Gallery, southwest of Slomškov trg, has a relatively rich collection of modern works by Slovenian artists and excellent changing exhibits.

Mikel House Gallery
Mikel House is a lovely cream-and-white building dating from 1858; it houses exhibitions of contemporary art and does double duty as the town’s library.

Ilirija Column
The column in the centre of Trg Francoske Revolucije recalls Napoleon’s Illyrian Provinces (1809–13), when Slovene was taught in schools for the first time.

Vidic House
Radovljicas colourful main square is the town’s leading attraction. Vidič House has a corner projection and is painted in red, yellow, green and blue.

Venetian Horse Statue
Outside the town hall is the Venetian Horse, a life-size work by contemporary sculptor/designer Oskar Kogoj, and now something of a symbol for Slovenj Gradec.

Trenta Museum
In the same building as the Triglav National Park Information Centre you’ll find the Trenta Museum, which focuses on the parks geology and natural history.

France Mihelič Gallery
Over two floors in the granary house youll find the France Mihelič Gallery, which displays the works of the eponymous artist born in nearby Virmaše in 1907.

Former Town Hall
On Mestni trg, look out for the former Town Hall, remarkable for its stunning three-storey Gothic courtyard and the 17th-century frescoes on its facade.

People’s Loan Bank
The cream-coloured former People’s Loan Bank (1908) is topped with blue tiles and the figures of two women holding symbols of industry (a beehive) and wealth (a purse).

Dolphin Gate
Behind the market north of Tartinijev trg, medieval homes have been built into an ancient defensive wall along Obzidna ulica, which passes under 15th-century Dolphin Gate.

Keramika Bojnec
This pottery workshop in Filovci invites visitors to watch them work at the ancient kiln in the skanzen (open-air museum displaying village architecture) next door.

Museum of Underwater Activities
One for diving enthusiasts, this museum makes much of Piran’s close association with the sea and diving. Particularly noteworthy are all the old diving suits and helmets.

Plečnik Cone
The strange cone in Pogarčarjev trg was erected in honour of Plečnik in 1993. It represents the parliament building he designed but never built for the top of Castle Hill.
