The western edge of Carpacciov trg is marked by the large arched Taverna, a one-time salt warehouse dating from the 15th century.

Granary
The 16th-century granary at Spodnji Trgs northern end is where the towns grain stores, collected as taxes, were once kept.

Built in 1672, this church was dedicated to the patron saint of fires after a serious blaze destroyed much of the Old Town.

In Mestni Park, the Victory Monument is an impressive stone grouping Yugoslav Partisans and Soviet soldiers, a rarity in modern Slovenia.

Church of Our Lady of the Snows
Almost opposite the Minorite Monastery is the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, with a superb 15th-century arch painting of the Crucifixion.

Totto Palace
On the north side of Kidričeva ulica are some restored Venetian houses and the 18th-century baroque Totto Palace, with winged lion relief.

One of two working floating mills on the Mura River, the Babič Mill at Veržej is the real deal, with grain ground and sold for clients.

Gallery of Contemporary Art
In the southern wing of the Princes Palace is the Gallery of Contemporary Art, with thematic exhibitions of both local and foreign artists.

Fontico
On the eastern side of Trg Brolo is the Fontico, a granary where the town’s wheat was once stored, with wonderful medallions and reliefs.

Črnomelj Castle
Parts of the castle date from the mid-12th century, but much of it has been restored and renewed. It now houses administrative offices.

Municipal Hall
The porticoed 19th-century Municipal Hall (home to the tourist information centre) dominates the northwestern edge of Tartinijev trg.

Temple of Hercules
Between the Capuchin Church of St Cecilia and City Park is the reconstructed Roman Temple of Hercules dating from the 2nd century AD.

Medieval Town Houses
Opposite the Totto Palace are some wonderful medieval town houses, with protruding upper storeys painted in a checked red, gold and green pattern.

Martin House
The 17th-century Martin House leans on part of the old town wall. It has a wooden 1st floor, a late-Gothic portal and a vaulted entrance hall.
