The Museum of Málaga opened in 2015. It includes an archaeological-history section with reproductions of wall paintings found in Nerja caves and a magnificent 1.7m sculpture of a Roman soldier dating to the 2nd century AD. A further gallery concentrates on the Moorish period with a large model of Málaga's one-time medina-like market and several Nasrid ceramics. The museum also contains a fine-arts section of 19th- and 20th-century Spanish paintings.
