The imposing 16th-century castle of the Fajardo family presides over the old part of Cuevas del Almanzora, housing a small archaeology museum devoted to the El Argar Bronze Age culture, a gallery of Goya lithographs and the Museo Antonio Manuel Campoy. This last exhibits a large and fascinating selection of paintings and sculpture, mainly by Spanish painters (including Picasso, Miró and Tàpies), from the collection of one of Spain’s greatest art critics.
