The Villa Romana de Veranes is 12km southwest of Gijón, about 500m north off the AS18 road to Oviedo. The main remaining building, which was transformed into a church in the Middle Ages, is thought by some to have been an early Christian church or perhaps even baths. Some original Roman mosaics have survived. Hourly ALSA buses run to Veranes (€1.20, 15 minutes).
