Botafoc Peninsula
The narrow Botafoc peninsula is home to Ibizas main ferry terminal. A lighthouse marks the easternmost point; its the focus for celebrations when hundreds gather here to see the first sunrise of the New Year.

Casa del Turista
The building was a former 16th-century convent and today houses an art and crafts shop that includes a permanent exhibit of a volcanic-sand carpet that is typical of those produced for the Corpus Christi celebrations.

Real Colegiata de Santa María
The 13th-century Gothic Real Colegiata de Santa María, a good example of Navarran Gothic architecture, contains a much-revered, silver-covered statue of the Virgin beneath a modernist-looking canopy worthy of Frank Gehry.

Museo de Euskal Herría
Housed in the beautiful 18th-century Palacio de Montefuerte, this museum contains a comprehensive exhibition on Basque history and culture, with fine old maps, engravings and a range of other documents and portraits.

Playa de la Garita
The main attraction of the fishing village of Arrieta is the small beach Playa de la Garita, a combination of volcanic rock and sand with a congenial beach bar and restaurant where you can relax with a beer and tapas.

Playa del Castillo
The resort is fronted by a white sandy beach, complete with volleyball net and camel rides . It is ideal for families, although a poor relation compared to the rolling dunes and endless sands of Corralejo and Jandía.

Platja de lEixample
In a hidden garden inside a typical Eixample block is an old water tower and an urban beach, the Platja de lEixample. In reality, this is a knee-height swimming pool, perfect for little ones, and surrounded by sand.

Mercat Vell
Fruit and vegetables have been traded at the neoclassical Mercat Vell (Old Market) since 1873. Today most of the produce, which includes olive oil and artisan bread, is locally sourced. Cafes and bars fringe the market.

Centro de Interpretación de la Ciudad Medieval
The best-preserved defensive tower of the old city wall, located at the top of the old town, tells the history of medieval Plasencia through video, models and artefacts, and provides access to a walkable chunk of the wall.

La Beneficència
This complex contains two museums; a folk museum displaying photographs, artefacts and household items from both city and region; and an archaeological museum with a comprehensive overview of the region’s more remote past.

La Cueva de Zugarramurdi
According to the Inquisition, these caves (also known as Cuevas de Las Brujas, or Caves of the Witches) were once the scene of evil debauchery. True to form, inquisitors tortured and burned scores of alleged witches here.

Natura Parc
A couple of kilometres southwest of Santa Eugènia on the Ma3011 to Palma, kids will enjoy this nature theme park with everything from llamas and lemurs to flamingos and kangaroos prancing about in relative freedom.

Parque Arqueológico
Parque Arqueológico-Natural de la Campa Torres , on the Cabo Torres headland 6km northwest of the city centre, is Gijós birthplace - a Roman and pre-Roman site where you can examine remains of dwellings and cisterns.

The Hospital de Mujeres is an 18th-century womens hospital whose chapel is one of the most profusely decorated churches from Cádizs golden century and contains El Grecos Extasis de San Francisco (Ecstasy of St Francis).

Castro de Coaña
The small town of Coaña lies about 4km inland of the port of Navia, west of Luarca. A couple of kilometres beyond is the Castro de Coaña, one of northern Spains best-preserved Celtic settlements and well worth visiting.

Bodegas del Palacio de Fefiñanes
Though better-known wineries lie outside Cambados itself, one of the most accessible is this small establishment in the handsome, 17th-century Pazo de Fefiñáns, on broad Praza de Fefiñáns at the northern end of town.
