Church & Convent of Santo Domingo
At the heart of Hermiguas original village, to the right as you enter from San Sebastián, lies this 16th-century church and convent, with an intricately carved Mudéjar (Islamic-style architecture) ceiling.

Concordia Train Station
The Concordia train station, with its handsome art nouveau facade of wrought iron and tiles, was built in 1902 and for many years provided colour and interest in a city once known only for industrial decay.

Cala Mitjana
Ah, bliss! Pine-brushed cliffs enshroud this white-sand cove on the southwest coast. Take the track that veers off the road between Ferreries and Cala Galdana, then walk for around 20 minutes to reach it.

Playa del Playazo
A 400m broad, sandy strip between two headlands, one of which is topped by a small 18th-century fort (now a private home): its 3.5km east of Rodalquilar, the last 2km along a drivable track from the main road.

Playa Los Pocillos
A couple of kilometres north of Puerto del Carmen, the golden, sandy arc of Playa Los Pocillos is a kilometre long and known for its windy but calm waters, which create perfect conditions for windsurfers.

Playa de Gros
Less popular than nearby Playa de la Concha, but just as showy, Playa de Gros is the city’s main surf beach. Though swimming here is more dangerous, it has more of a local vibe. Its located east of Río Urumea.

Casa Colón
Huelvas salmon-pink Casa Colón was constructed as the citys original luxury hotel in the 1880s to accommodate guests of the Río Tinto company. It now contains the towns archives and hosts conferences.

Cambril de la Mare de Déu
Follow signs to the Cambril de la Mare de Déu to the right of Montserrats main basilica entrance to see the Black Virgin, a revered 12th-century statue of the Virgin Mary with Jesus seated on her knee.

Fuente Egipcia
On the southern end of the lake, the odd structure decorated with sphinxes is the Fuente Egipcia: legend has it that an enormous fortune buried in the park by Felipe IV in the mid-18th century rests here.

Jardines del Real
Reaching down to the riverbed are the Royal Gardens, a lovely spot for a stroll, with plenty of palms and orange trees as well as a small aviary. Once the grounds of a palace, they’re often called Los Viveros.

Museo de Caza
The Museo de Caza houses a welter of stuffed wildlife, plus ibex and deer heads staring dolefully from the walls. It is located in an adjoining building to the Centro de Interpretación Torre del Vinagre.

Plaza de Federico Moyúa
With its fountains and spinning traffic, Plaza de Federico Moyúa is the heart of the Ensanche. Its home to the regal Hotel Carlton, once the hotel of choice for Einstein, Hemmingway and other such luminaries.

Iglesia de la Asunción
The early-16th-century Iglesia de la Asunción the oldest, albeit crumbling, plateresque portal in the province, plus a vibrant and colourful retablo (altarpiece) with nine painted panels dating from 1589.

Museo Pérez Comendador
Within an impressive 18th-century mansion, the Museo Pérez Comendador-Leroux houses works by Hervás-born, 20th-century sculptor Enrique Pérez Comendador and his wife, the French painter Magdalena Leroux.

Museo Nacional de Cerámica
Inside the Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas, the National Ceramics Museum displays ceramics from around the world – and especially of the renowned local production centres of Manises, Alcora and Paterna.

Museo de la Ciencia y del Agua
Beside the river and one for the children. Although everything’s in Spanish, this small hands-on science museum has plenty of buttons to press and knobs to twirl, plus fish tanks and a small planetarium.

Monasterio de Irache
The Monasterio de Irache is 3km southwest of Estella, near Ayegui. This ancient Benedictine monastery has a lovely 16th-century plateresque cloister and its Puerta Especiosa is decorated with delicate sculptures.

Església de Sant Vicenç Ferrer
On the corner of Carrer de Muntaner, is the baroque Església de Sant Vicenç Ferrer, which first opened for worship in 1617. Its attached to a fetching 18th-century cloister, now home to government offices.

Església de Sant Joan Baptista
Five kilometres south across the potato flats from Sa Pobla, Muro boasts an outsized parish church in the sandstone Església de Sant Joan Baptista , a brooding Gothic creation reminiscent of Sineus main church.

Cala Llonga
Framed by wooded headlands to the north and south, Cala Llonga is a very sheltered bay and family resort, with a sandy beach and wonderful swimming. However the huge concrete hotels disfigure the scene somewhat.
